If wrinkles must be written on our brows, let them not be written upon the heart…

Wrinkle

What is written on your face? What is written upon your heart? What worries you and what makes you smile? What is your story?

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose

Poems, stories, paintings and more by Sharmishtha Basu

fire 23.1.14

23rd January this day was doubly blessed, holy for any one who loves India, and its great sons, yesterday was Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 117th birthday and Swami Vivekananda’s Janmatithi (birthdate in Hindu calendar)

First one is for Netaji, a priceless soul who sacrificed everything, including recognition from country (in political sense) to the altar of his motherland-

You were that fire
that gently enveloped world
without a single sound

The second one is for Swamiji, Swami Vivekananda, who stitched a garland of love for his motherland, and we still are filled up with the fragrance of that garland- his blessings still bless us in forms of hospitals, charitable organizations and amazing schools.

your fire softly
illuminated this earth
it still glows and spreads light

I catch the sunrise (Ese’s)

rays stream through canopied trees

glistening on dew kissed leaves (mine)

Tan Renga

great expectations
entangled in fishing line
I catch the sunrise

glistening on dew kissed leaves
